The man in the red scarf, holding two fingers up(peace sign), is" Poncho", from Huston, Texas. Real name I can't remember.
Welcome Home All Scouts!

We recently completed a short video as a tribute to our fallen comrades.  I have attached it to this email (less than 5mb).  Please feel free to add it to your website if you wish.  If you would like a copy at a higher resolution for showing with a projector, please let me know and I will send it to you on a cdrom in .wmv format (approx. 35mb).  As we mentioned before, if you have reunion information you would like us to add to our website, please let me know via email (VNHeloReunion@aol.com).  If you have any feedback, please feel free to contact me.  We look forward to continuing to offer your organization support!

Dear Vietnam Helicopter Association Representative,
I served with the 129th AHC from 69-70.  In 2002, I went to my first reunion.  As many of you may have experienced, I was very apprehensive about seeing all these buddies from the past.  Now, I won't miss another reunion.  This year, my wife and I made a pledge to find ways to get other helo vets to come to their first reunion or to return to another.  Part of that effort was to create an organization dedicated primarily to that task (VietnamHeloReunion.com).  This organization is NOT in competition with any group or website - rather it is a support function to help YOU get information out.  We recently created a 1 minute video promotional spot for the VHCMA 2006 reunion which you can view and download from our website (www.VietnamHeloReunion.com).  I would like to invite you to view our website, provide us with feedback, let us know how we can help you, and let us know if there is information about your reunion we can add and also if you would like to be included on the Links page.  Again, we are here to support you.
Sincerely;
Bill Wolf

Good morning 14,
here's something else that you may want to add to our site.As
you can see,it was done by Weird Stanley, and a great job he did
too.I wish I knew how to change this to a jpeg, and a smaller
file size wouldn't hurt either.I'm just a dumb bike builder.I
hope all is well with you and yours, and the new year is far
better then the last was.
                         peace,

Don't know what took me so long to get here.
(typical Bagger excuse)  Please post my e-mail address and anyone who
remembers me, drop a note. If anyone has a question I may be able to answer from
my position as 26&3 in Charlie Horse while in Quang Tri, I'll do my
best. It would be a pleasure to hear from you old bustards

Seems a long time ago but yet so familiar to see your photos on the screen.  How the hell are you!  I'm doing as well as any of us old bastards could be expected to be doing I guess, got all my body parts and most function OK.  I'm in regular contact with Russ Whipple, Joe Hogg, and Larry Brown.  I've spoken to Bart in the last year, also Jim Ross, Gen Wolfe, and Fred Blanchard in the more distant past.  The Warrant in the 58 seated in the rear seat is Ross, and the officer standing next to the Cobra is John Hunter, I think.
The guy in the black shirt at the cookout isn't me.
You have a picture of Capt Slack, unidentified, as he stands looking to his right in civies.  Drop me a line if you get the time.

Merry Christmas!
Just a message to Charlie Horse, from CH 26-3 3/17 Quang Tri, V.N.,70-71.  My thoughts and prayers to all of you during this season, unsure if the unit is still in harms way and wishing all the best for you where ever you are.  At this time of year my thoughts return to the two years that I spent in a combat zone, and I recall the affection we shared for one another during those trying times.  The Christmas season was harder on some than others, but we were all in it together and did the best we could.  Get the job done and get home.

                                      Best Wishes

When we changed to d/3/5 we put on 9th patches.  We were originally part of the lst Aviation brigade and wore that patch.  When the unit came to Quang Tri it came under the 212th Combat Aviation Bn headquartered in Danang.  The 212th was a lst Aviation unit.  I was a 212th medic and was sent to c/3/17 in September 1971. In December we became D/3/5 or maybe it was Jan 1971.
Ther were no 9th units in I Corps that I know of.  We supported the 1st brigade 5th Mechanized Infantry, the 11th Infantry Brigade and ARVN units.  I left near the end of Feb. 1971 as I had been in country  fourteen months

I was with c/3/17 when it switched to D/3/5 in Jan. 1971. C/3/17 was a unit of the 1st Aviation Brigade when they came to Quang Tri from somewhere near Saigon.  They had participated in the Cambodian affair.  The unit was attached to the 212th Combat Aviation Battalion based in Danang.  The 212th was a unit of the 1st Aviation Brigade.  I was a medic assigned to the 212th and reassigned to c/3/17 in September of 1971.  I stayed until the end of Feb1971.  I had been in country for fourteen months and I ETS back to the United States.  The unit supported the 11th inf Brigade, the 1st Brigade 5th Mechanized Infantry and various ARVN units.
I remember that a ranger unit was across the road from us in the rear.  I have some pictures of my time with the troop. I have one of a new sign that was put up to show we were now D/3/5.

I was a Charliehorse ARP  with C Troop, 3/17th and D Troop, 3/5th from October, 1970 until October, 1971 in Quang Tri. I now live in Baton Rouge, LA and came upon your website while I was trying to look up a friend of mine, Oliver p. Stone, who came into the unit with me. I have some photos of my time over there. If you are interested, let me know and I will try to get them to you. This website brought back a lot of old memories. Thank you.

Dewy:
Brain fart.  Denmark was the Huey gunner killed on the ground.  Neil Wade was the scout crew chief.  Denmark was crewing Charliehorse 26 and was killed in the ground fight.  Wade was killed with Herrick.  The inaccuracy is that Denmark is listed as a scout chief and he was a huey Chief.  The copilot, Neil Flynn, thinks he was killed as he stepped from the Huey that landed inside a NVA Bn. HQ.  The Pilot, Noel Harvey believes he was hit on the way down.  We are not sure, but his body was recovered with the crew by JG from Da Nang.  I have contact with Harvey and Flynn (CH26) and Herrick (Charliehorse14)
